대구지역의 업체, 단체, 시민들의 힘으로 개최되는 행사로 더욱 의미가 깊은 대구여성영화제는 여성주의적 시각에서 영화를 해석하고, 여성을 비롯한 사회적 약자들과 더불어 살아가는 문화를 만들기 위한 노력의 일환으로 개최된다.

영화제는 단순한 영화 관람을 넘어 시민들의 삶을 이야기하고 나누는 축제의 장으로 시민들을 위한 행사인만큼 모든 영화는 무료로 상영되며, 좌석표는 현장에서 선착순 발권을 한다.

계명대 여성학연구소는 이번 영화제 개최를 위해 지난 8월 단편영화 공모를 진행하고, 185편을 접수해 심사를 거쳐 12편의 단편영화를 선정했다.

또한 지난 9월에는 ‘젠더시네마 스쿨’을 열어 여성영화의 재현과 서사에 대한 강의를 무료로 진행하기도 했다.

행사의 첫째 날인 2일에는 기후 위기와 에코페미니즘을 담은 ‘개미와 베짱이’와 ‘고독의 지리학’을 상영하고 각각 기획토크와 씨네토크를 진행한다.

기획토크는 ‘기후 위기 시대, 대안의 삶을 이야기하다’를 주제로 도서출판 한티재 오은지 대표, 대구녹색소비자연대 김은영사무국장, 제로웨이스트 샵 더커먼 강경민 대표와 구예린 계명대 여성학과 대학원생이 대구지역의 환경 실천과 대안적 삶에 대해 이야기를 나눈다.
